5K on the 5th of May

Last New Years I was in the University of Ottawa Heart Institute, two days out of emergency heart surgery. That morning my family got a call to come to the hospital quickly, I was having seizures and showing signs of a stroke. I remember the nurse saying, "Diane! Look at me!!", and being unable to point my eyes in the proper direction, going into a seizure. There is no doubt in my mind that had I not been in the great care of the amazing nurses and doctors at the Heart Institute, I would not have been here for 2017. My surgeon Dr. Chan saved my life, and his team somehow managed to put me back together again. I can't think of a better way to spend New Years Day this year, a 5K walk to raise money for the hospital who saved my life. 5K isn't very far, but it is miraculous that I can do that this year. It is amazing that I am here, to see 2018.
As you may know, the Heart Institute is just months away from opening their new facilities. They were being built while I was in the hospital, and it is incredible that they are so close to opening the doors. Please join my team, we will walk 5K on New Years Day this January 1st 2018. If you cannot join, please consider completing the 5K on your own that day and collecting donations, or sponsor our team. I would love to raise 1000$ for the University of Ottawa Heart Institute. What better way to begin the New Year by getting some excersize and supporting an amazing cause! #thebeatgoeson
