The University of Ottawa Heart Institute Foundation is hosting the 3rd Virtual 5 km. If you’re new to this event, here’s what you should know.

How do I do this?

It's easy! It's only $30 and you will receive a tax receipt! You set your own route, pace and place! Complete the 5 km anytime between June 1st and June 30th, 2016.

Do a little at a time, or all at once. Jog, walk, run or bike? It doesn't matter, get moving! Once you’re done, you will receive a shiny new medal for all your hard work!

Can I do this?

This event is for anyone and everyone. Location is not a barrier! Two years ago, we had participants in British Columbia, Paris and even Uganda! What’s your excuse?

Where can I do my 5k?

You choose! It can be a route you normally walk/run/jog/bike in your neighbourhood. It can also be a route you take at lunch. Come up with a new one. Here are some tips to get your started. The choice is yours. There are lots of free apps that can help you track your route such as Run keeper, Strava, or even Google Maps.

Where's my medal?

Once you're done your 5 km, email us your photos and share your route. The medals will be mailed to you in July!

Email Lindsay Firestone at when you complete the 5 km with your photos. Tweet, Facebook or Instagram your journey with the hashtag #heart5K. Maybe it's a photo of a beautiful sunset on your walk. It can be anything, even a selfie of you at the finish line! Have fun and dress up! Wear red to support the Ottawa Heart Institute.
